PINK PEPPERMINT CHRISTMAS PARTY IDEAS & DECORATIONS

If you’re party planning for a Christmas fête this year, consider adding a twist of peppermint. Why is peppermint associated with winter and Christmas, you ask? Well, according to some (aka Google), the original candy cane was shaped like a shepherd's staff and was all white. Candy canes didn’t get their classic red striping for sometime after, and no one can say why.

Why peppermint is a winter favorite is also uncertain, yet it is everywhere–from hot cocoa toppings, peppermint bark, peppermint lollipops, and even peppermint popcorn! Regardless of the why, we are delighted to celebrate the candy cane's cultural significance with a special pink peppermint party. Read on for holiday hosting tips and our favorite peppermint Christmas decorations.

Peppermint balloon garland for a peppermint Christmas party.

Peppermint Christmas-themed parties call for peppermint candy balloons! Our team made a crème de menthe halo using red and white balloons with candy-stripe foil balloons filled with air. Balloons add a level of whimsy to any celebration, so they’re wonderful for Christmas parties.

You can easily get a similar look to a balloon installation by using bunches of holiday balloons. This darling pink Christmas balloon backdrop from Pop Park City is a wonderful example!

We wanted to bring a hint of nostalgia with this theme, so we decorated with accents inspired by vintage Christmas decor. Anything with ticking stripes or retro lettering was fair game, so this peppermint parlor container was perfect. Although it’s intended for holiday treats, it made a fabulous vase for our brimming holiday floral arrangement.

Since this party is pink and white and red all over, we picked an arrangement in a similar color scheme. Contrary to popular belief, floral centerpieces aren’t exclusive to the warmer months. In fact, they’re even more essential to liven things up when the weather outside is frightful.

We recommend choosing a variety of red and white flowers (red roses are a Christmas classic) and layering cranberry sprays throughout. You can even spruce it up with a hand painted Santa die-cut accent as we did here. They come in a set of ten, so you can use the remaining accents as party invitations or wrapping paper tags.

Santa plates and other Christmas party supplies for a peppermint-themed party.

To play upon the peppermint theme, we used these scalloped candy cane plates with the coordinating guest towel napkins. If you’re hosting a Christmas-themed party for kids, you can never go wrong with bringing in some Santa elements.

Saint Nick’s rosy face and red Santa hat complimented the color scheme brilliantly. So, we added a Santa plate and Santa napkin to each setting. To finish it off we used a festive red and white cutlery, en voila: A tablescape as cute as a Christmas card!

If you'd rather stick with classic candy cane party supplies, these scalloped candy cane plates and our Cherry Red Signature plates make a perfect pairing. We suggest swapping in these pink and red bow napkins to tie it all together.

You can’t throw a peppermint holiday party without peppermint hot chocolate, which means cocoa cups are a must! These naughty/nice cozy cups are perfect for hot drinks, keeping them in pepper-mint condition and warm all night. They also come with lids, so they’re ideal for Christmas caroling, or any on-the-go Christmas party activities.

We recommend serving your cocoa with a variety of mix-in options like peppermint patties, mini marshmallows, and candy cane sprinkles. These pink peppermint food cups are great for portioning out toppings across the party table. We also love the idea of using them as petite treat holders for Christmas movie nights!

The best part about hosting gatherings during the holiday season is how many fun games and activities there are to explore. From Secret Santa gift exchanges to Christmas craft nights, the options are endless.

Since Christmas games always sleigh (sorry), we decided to sprinkle some peppermint surprise balls on the table to use as prizes. Christmas crackers are also an option, and they double as fabulous vintage party favors.

Perhaps our favorite part about this peppermint fête was our picturesque pink Christmas tree. Donned with candy cane wreaths and sparkly bows, it looked as though it came straight from the Land of Sweets!

However, you don’t need a pink tree to pull off something this serene. Even embellishing with some candy cane ornaments or pink gift-wrapped presents would tie in the theme tree-mendously.
